MK Dons attacker Dean Bowditch says team thought they were close to Middlesbrough win

MK Dons attacker Dean Bowditch admitted the team thought they were close to getting the win against Middlesbrough.

The Dons number 9 scored early in the contest against the Teesiders at stadium:mk, and looked like taking the rewards until Bowditch’s former Ipswich teammate Jordan Rhodes scored a 93rd minute equaliser.

Bowditch said the team did not go into the contest fazed by the visitors, who went top with their point at stadium:mk, and thought they were so close to the three points until Rhodes struck.

He said, “You want to win every game. I know you might go into some games like Chelsea where you go think its going to be tough, but you still have a gameplan and go about it the same as you would every single week.

“As the game goes on, you start to realise we might have a chance or we need to change something as something isn’t going right. Today, our game plan was spot on – we did fantastically well, and when it it got to 60, 70, 75, we thought we could win this game against a team at the top.

“It felt like reality until Jordan Rhodes popped up.”

Talking about the goal, Bowditch admitted it was not his firmest strike and owed as much to an error by visiting keeper Dimi Konstantopolous. But he was also pleased to see the ball go beyond the keeper.

He said, “I think he’ll probably hold his hands up and say he made a bit of a mistake. I think he was slightly unsighted by the defender and I’ll have to watch it back, and saw it late.

“I was basically blowing it in, but it was great to see it go in as we haven’t had this luck in recent games, and it was good to see it nestle in.”
