POLICE have appealed for witnesses following a “high-value” raid on the Fraser Hart jewellers in the centre:mk in the early hours of this morning. (21/11)

The robbery happened before 3:38am this morning, when police were called to the shop and arrived to find extensive damage to both the property and the surrounding area.

As well as the shop, a chain was found padlocked across the road, while a fire had also been started and tree trunks had been laid across the adjacent Marlborough Gate road to block a police pursuit.

Police closed roads around the shopping centre following the crime, and although the area is now open, the shop and its surrounding environments will remain with restricted access.

Investigating officer DCI Kelly Glister has said that the robbery looked like something with lots of planning behind it, and access to areas of the shopping centre will remain restricted while investigations are carried out.

She said, “It is fortunate that nobody was hurt during this incident. This was a deliberate and well-planned robbery which would have meant the offenders would have been in the area beforehand as part of their preparations.

The road is now open; however restricted access to some parts of the shopping centre will remain in place until we have completed our investigation work. It is a very busy Saturday morning, and we hope to restore normality as quickly as possible.

“We would urge anyone working or living in CMK who saw anyone acting suspiciously near Silbury Arcade earlier this week or in the early hours of this morning to contact us as a matter of urgency on 101.”

This is the second time in just over a year that a jewellers in the centre:mk has been targeted by robbers, after a reported £1million-worth of jewellery was stolen from the Leslie Davis shop in the complex in October 2014.
